I saw CICD advertised on Facebook in early December 2024. I took the decision to join CICD by Christmas 2024.
What appealed to me was the opportunity to learn new skills and then apply these at the volunteer placement in Africa; to help people less fortunate than myself.
Also I liked the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends whilst studying.
Now, having spent nearly 5 months at CICD, I feel excited and motivated to go the Project and assist the people of Zambia to raise crucial funds to help fund other projects in their country.
Learning in class we did many study tasks about the negative impact of colonisation, and how the western world did not support the African countries sufficiently when they became independent. This really does make me feel I want to give something back to these people.
During the last 5 months I have learnt to work and live in a community with people from different cultures, which is very different from working with people from my own culture in my every day working life.
I think and hope I have learnt to be more patient and have increased my listening skills, both of which will be invaluable at the Project!
