The Poverty Activist programme consists of 12 months:
- 5 months: Studies, investigations and actions at CICD
- 6 months: Volunteering with Humana People to People in an African country or in India
- 1 month: Conclusion and sharing your experiences with the public
5 months: Studies, training and actions based at CICD
In the first five months of the programme you will immerse yourself into the many aspects of our fast changing world.
You will dig deep into the driving forces of development, into how past events have influenced the political, economic and human landscape of our world today. You will get to know about what this means for The Poor - in the project country and also here in England.
You will also be part of our international community at CICD, running the school together with the rest of us. This is an important part of your training, and includes everything from food shopping and cooking and cleaning to planning & organising one of our monthly Building Weekends, where we all pull together to take care of our buildings and park!
6 months: Volunteering in an African country or in India
This period takes place at one of Humana People to People’s development projects. You fly to the country, where you are going to spend the next 6 months together with your trio volunteering in areas such as education of children and adults, health campaigns and prevention of malaria, TB, HIV/AIDS, food security and farming or environmental sustainability. You get your job description before you leave CICD and have also been in contact with your Project Leader, so after maybe a few days at the National Headquarter of Humana People to People in the country, you move on to your project and get started.
1 month: Bringing It to the Public
This period is a very important part of the programme. It gives you time to reflect and conclude on your experiences and achievements and to share them widely. You will have started preparing this during the first 5 months of your stay at CICD, so you already have the outline of a plan. Reach as many people as you can – it is important to share your experiences that we all can take part in creating a better world!
Next starting date: 1. February and 1. August 2025
