I’ve always been interested in volunteer work and I had this feeling of wanting to give back to the community. So when I found CICD’s website I felt that the 10-months Development Instructor programme was perfect for me.
What were the reasons?
The Programme Structure
It has 3 months training at CICD which prepares you for the 6 months you spend in the project country - in our case it is Malawi - and after coming back we have a month when we share our experience with the public.
The Experience
The other reason why I chose this programme is because I wanted to see and experience how volunteering operates on location and how I can add value to the project in Malawi, how local people live, and know more about their culture and share the daily life with them.
The Opportunity
We live in an international community where we have people with different ages, backgrounds and cultures. Beside this the concept of learning by doing where we do cooking, cleaning, farming duties in teams and we also organise interest-driven workshops and events to have fun, gives the opportunity to hone our skills and theoretical knowledge, to share the tasks and responsibilities.
So, by doing it together we can achieve the common objective and, if we fail we discuss the reasons and come up with better ideas. This way both the participants and the teams grow and get a sense of accomplishment.
