Hi!

My name is Mel, I am 22 years old and I am Portuguese!

In 2013 I joined CICD as a Development instructor for the 18 months program. I went to Mozambique to a project called One World University. I was a teacher, I worked with several teams – teaching Portuguese, English, Economy, History, Agriculture, Expressive Arts etc., and I also worked in small communities - building classrooms, improving agriculture methods and much more.

After my service time at the project I understood how important it is to send people to projects in Africa, how important it is to fight for a better world. I have seen Poverty with my own eyes, I have felt their pain and I was fighting by their side.

“Do more than belong: participate. Do more than care: help. Do more than believe: practice. Do more than be fair: be kind. Do more than forgive: forget. Do more than dream: work.” - William Arthur Ward

After this experience I decided I wanted to help CICD sending more volunteers!
Currently I am the Gaia Teacher and in February 2016 I will be the 24 months program teacher.
CICD changed my life, being a DI here taught me much more than I could imagine to learn. I went to Africa to help and I ended up learning much more than I could teach there! My wish is that more and more volunteers feel the same! An incredible urge to do something to change this big difference between rich and poor countries filled me and I made the incredible decision to become a teacher here and to send as many DI-s as I can to the projects.
